Avant Garde font family belongs to geonetric sans serif typeface family. This font was used in the logo of Avant Garde magazine. It was designed by Herb Lubalin and his partner Tom Carnase. After that, in 1974 Ed Benguiat designed the condensed font for this font family. Its oblique styles were designed in 1977 by Andre Gurtler and Christian Mengelt.

Its original design was based on two versions. One is for headlines and second for text copy but only text design was used for digital media, in which alternative characters were not included. This font family contains five weights. After the released of its Open Type version there were 33 alternative characters were included. Elsner and Flake also the alternate characters separately as anlternative of Avant Garde font.

This is the bold gothic typeface that works great for all different types of display projects and this is also considered as the Trademark of Monotype font foundry and you will also find this in adobe fonts. This full-fledged typeface can easily be used with parisian font and its styles.

Features of Avant Garde Font

In 2011, the main font of this typeface family was used for Eurovision Son Contest to create slogan and voting scoreboard. This font was used in the logos of GM Goodwrench and ACS journal Chemical reviews.

This is the ideal choice for the designs that require a retro 70’s look. This an amazing font that is used for different display projects that include headlines and short texts. 

It was used in Rock Band video games to create its menus. In first version of this game alternate characters were mainly used. Also used in game title and game play of video game control.
